After a ceremonial event lasting four hours on Friday evening, the Olympics in Paris commenced with the ignition of the Olympic flame. In a notable departure from tradition, the opening ceremony took place in the open expanse of the Trocadero Palace near the Eiffel Tower, as opposed to the stadium. Athletes arrived by boat on the Seine River, with delegations from each country sailing on their respective vessels. The Croatian delegation prominently displayed their national flag on their ship, carried by Giovanni Cernogoraz, a longstanding member of the Croatian Hunting Association, and judoka Barbara Matić, with fervent chants of "Croatia, Croatia" resonating from the vessel. A total of 85 boats arrived at the palace, each accompanied by additional artistic performances. A glimpse of the ambience is captured in the attached screenshot from HRT's broadcast.
